Sr. Front End Engineer , Amazon Leo | Customer Experience

Amazon Leo is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities beyond the reach of existing networks. Amazon Leo will help close the digital divide by serving a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

We are seeking an innovative and customer-obsessed Senior Front End Engineer to help build the customer-facing web experiences at Amazon Leo. In this role, you'll design and deliver the Leo consumer website and other front-end technologies that customers use to discover, purchase, and manage their service, building from the ground up in a fast-moving environment. You'll help set a high bar for performance, accessibility, and quality while shipping quickly and iterating often. Your work will directly shape how millions of customers around the world experience Amazon Leo, and your technical judgment will be crucial in creating durable, well-architected front-end solutions that raise the bar on customer experience.

• Build and own core customer-facing web experiences, starting with the Leo consumer website, at global scale
• Invent and build with AI: leverage generative AI throughout the development lifecycle to accelerate delivery while maintaining high engineering standards
• Shape customer experience: work directly with designers, product managers (PMs), and business stakeholders to define and deliver a great customer experience
• Drive high-impact work: your code directly serves customers globally, improving reliability, performance, and satisfaction
• Build greenfield front-end systems and reusable component libraries from scratch that operate at global scale
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape the future of Amazon Leo's products and services
• Contribute to the technical direction of Amazon Leo's front-end architecture and standards

The ideal candidate will have:

• A passion for building fast, accessible, and delightful web experiences that solve complex, large-scale challenges
• A proven track record of delivering high-quality, production front-end applications
• Deep expertise in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and front-end frameworks such as React, along with strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, web performance, and accessibility
• Experience building and consuming APIs and integrating front-end applications with cloud-native back-end services on AWS, including modern AI/ML integration patterns where applicable
• A strong sense of ownership, with the ability to make sound architectural decisions and mentor other engineers through code reviews and technical guidance

Key job responsibilities

• Aid in the design and delivery of AI-powered agent tooling, intelligent automation, and foundational infrastructure
• Develop a strategic plan for the growth of the team, both from a software services and organization perspective
• Hire & develop a diverse team of software engineers passionate about revolutionizing satellite internet
• Help on-board and mentor new team members
• Drive technical architecture decisions and establish engineering best practices for scalable, reliable systems serving millions of customers globally
• Partner with product managers, UX designers, TPMs, and peer teams to design software systems and interfaces that fulfill customer needs
• Foster a culture of rapid innovation and experimentation, balancing speed with engineering excellence in a startup-like environment

A day in the life
As a Software Development Manager at Amazon Leo Assisted Care, you'll operate in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. Your typical day involves making key architectural decisions alongside Senior Software Development Engineers (Sr. SDEs) and Principal Engineers, collaborating cross-functionally with product managers (PMs), user experience (UX) leaders, SDM partners, and technical program managers (TPMs), and mentoring engineers as they tackle complex problems.

Basic qualifications

• 4+ years of non-internship professional front end, web or mobile software development using JavaScript, HTML and CSS experience
• 5+ years of front-end developer creating prototypes or wire-frames for enterprise web applications or workflows experience
• Experience developing with MVC/MVM frameworks (e.g. React.JS, AngularJS, Vue)

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of web services technologies such as SOAP, HTTP, WSDL, XSD, and REST
• Experience in a broad range of software design approaches and common UX patterns.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
