Starting Pay: Up to $28.00/hour, plus $3.00/hour shift differential for 2nd shift

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Fitter / Layout Technician to join a fabrication shop team. This position focuses on preparing, positioning, fitting, and assembling structural steel components while ensuring accurate dimensions and proper alignment.

What You'll Do

Read and work from blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications.

Complete steel layout, fitting, alignment, and assembly according to job requirements.

Measure, mark, and prepare materials for fabrication.

Position and secure steel pieces to achieve accurate fit-up and assembly.

Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch.

Check dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and component placement throughout the fabrication process.

Inspect finished assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.

Work with supervisors and other fabrication personnel to maintain production schedules.

Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.

Follow established shop safety requirements and production procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Hands-on experience fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel components.
• Ability to set up and operate a track torch.
• Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to follow all required safety procedures.
• AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
