VAD Engineer, Lead

JOB DESCRIPTION: Supervise patient care activities to support patients with Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD). Serve as an expert resource to the Advanced Heart Failure Team, including other VAD Engineers, nursing staff, coordinators and physicians regarding technical details of VAD equipment operation. Responsible for orienting and training new and less experienced staff. Promote consistency and improvement of departmental practice and compliance with protocols. Regularly assume responsibility and direct care for the more complex patients, providing urgent and ongoing evaluation of technical problems and development of solutions. Provide assistance to colleagues in recognizing, interpreting, and managing unstable patient care situations. Equipment Management Responsibilities: Responsible for coordinating maintenance, requisitioning of departmental resources, and management of inventory levels to ensure availability and proper operation of VAD-related equipment. Cultivate relationships with vendors and ensure accurate communication regarding recalls, advisories, and supply considerations. Coordinate and document roll-out of recalls and updates of any VAD equipment. Ensure that the VAD equipment area is in compliance with TJC standards at all times. Verify that all regulatory requirements are implemented for VAD Disease Specific Certification by the Joint Commission. Reporting/Data Management Responsibilities: Stewardship of multiple databases related to ongoing and previous data collection. Integration and management of data specific to VAD patients for clinical decision-making, research, and regulatory compliance. Oversee quality assurance and control of that data. Provide reports and develop tools and methods for analyzing and summarizing the data to satisfy departmental needs and assist with research. Maintain, update, and reconcile databases and records of patient equipment. Develop workflows and standards for data capture and promote compliance. Additional Supervisor Responsibilities: Coordinate and lead meetings and decision making processes in the absence of other management. Schedule VAD Engineers for work shifts and call hours. Provide auditing and follow up to ensure accurate billing of VAD equipment. Assess the performance of the program and identify opportunities to improve, grow, and maintain efficiencies. Participate in PI meetings and research discussions relating to the use of departmental resources. Engage in budget meetings and budgeting for the department. Serve as the primary point of contact between the VAD engineers and the staff of other departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent AND a Bachelor¿s degree in Biomedical Engineering from an accredited school OR successful completion of a Nursing or cardiovascular technologist program required. Additionally, 2 years of experience in a clinical engineering role and one year of patient-facing experience.
