Job description

Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

We are looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to join our hardware team working on future wearables and accessory devices. This opportunity will be hybrid to San Francisco.

What You Will Do:

  • Electrical Design and development of cutting-edge wearable and other consumer devices, with a keen focus to detail, precision, and reliability. This includes electrical architecture, schematic design, and integration into PCBs, flexes, and other new technologies as required.
  • Define, own, and execute rapid prototyping efforts for concepts and evaluations, with both off the shelf and custom hardware.
  • Conduct thorough testing, validation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems to ensure they meet performance and safety standards. Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to develop test plans.
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical components within the product's physical design.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to develop embedded systems and ensure software-hardware compatibility; have proficiency yourself to create scripts & tools for bring-up, test, and profiling.
  • Work with leadership to help define and refine product roadmaps and timelines.

This is a hybrid role out of our San Francisco office.

What you'll bring

  • Project Experience: 10+ years of experience designing and shipping high volume consumer electronics as an HW Systems Integrator, who loves working on highly creative, fast-paced, and collaborative teams alongside Firmware Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Industrial and Interaction Designers. Experience working with ultra low power microprocessors, SoCs, MEMS sensors, and Wireless Charging technologies.
  • Electrical Design and Validation: Experience designing and validating custom analog and digital circuits and systems, including component selection, signal processing, and extremely comfortable with many communication protocols: UART, I2C, MIPI, SPI, DSI, and others. Experience scripting basic functions and working alongside firmware engineers to automate testing.
  • Design Software Tools: Experience working with schematic capture and PCB layout software (ie. Altium, KiCad, etc.)
  • Prototyping: Hands on experience building rapid prototypes and validating electrical and signal performance using typical EE lab equipment: rework equipment, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and power analyzers. Can quickly design, release, and bring-up custom quick-turn PCBs.
  • Manufacturing Expertise: Detailed experience designing, building, and testing high density PCBs, flexes, batteries, and sensing modules from concept to production. Experience working closely with CMs/JDMs to design and manufacture high precision and high quality products.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: You are comfortable with the unknown, the ambiguous, and strive to make engineering challenges a reality through creativity.
  • Driven, Technical Leadership: Able to drive tasks independently, act as a leader and mentor across multiple organizations, organize, escalate and communicate issues and needs clearly.
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills: Effective communication and collaboration skills are important. Be able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, work with other engineers and designers, and contribute to project planning and documentation.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with connected wearables, health & optical sensing, audio, and small form-factor products.
  • Ability to travel overseas to Europe & Asia several times a year to visit vendors & colleagues.
  • Familiarity with wireless protocols like BLE, BT, WiFi, NFC, 802.15.4, etc.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing tools and mechanical fabrication.

How Openbound evaluates sponsorship

Visa history uses official U.S. Department of Labor H-1B LCA disclosure data and USCIS H-1B petition history. Green card history uses DOL PERM disclosure data. Each is read for the employer as a whole, for roles like this one, and for this location, weighted toward the most recent fiscal years.

An employer is matched to its filing entities by verified legal name and reviewed aliases; a match is never made on a name resemblance alone. Where no verified entity can be matched, the page says so and draws no conclusion from the absence. 19 filing titles were examined for this employer.

What this posting states outranks history in both directions, and an employer's published policy outranks past filings. Filing history reflects past behavior; it is not a promise of sponsorship for this opening, and none of this is legal advice.
