The Strategic Commodity Manager is part of the Global Commodity Management team in Global Supply Chain Management organisation.
The impact you’ll make
At Lam, as a Strategic Commodity Manager, Lead execution of India RF supplier development initiatives, including identification, assessment, onboarding, qualification, and scaling of suppliers supporting Lam's regionalization and low-cost-region sourcing objectives.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for driving the commodity strategy for RF Build to Print and Build to Specification Components and Assemblies .
Some of the key highlights of the responsibilities include:
- Establishing Strategic commodity vision, evaluating/sourcing suppliers & managing supplier relationship to drive projects to achieve goals of global procurement efforts.
- Continuously scan markets & global landscape to explore and evaluate strategic suppliers.
- Coordinates with finance/accounting for inventory, cost savings & cash flow management.
- Evaluate new suppliers considering their Organization capabilities, Technology expertise, Production capabilities, Financial performance & Supply chain robustness.
- Ensure Suppliers have adequate capacity to support Lam demand as well as supply continuity risk management plans.
- Representation on a cross-functional strategic commodity team that focuses on supply challenges and ensures internal/external customer needs are satisfied. Works cross-functionally with product, manufacturing and quality engineers as well as procurement, finance, & product support.
- Define & monitor metrics in line with AOP (annual operating plan) objectives relative to supplier performance against these expectations to ensure continuous improvement; then drives team to address and close gaps to meet objectives
- Regularly evaluate cost and quality performance benchmarks, & the risks associated with the preferred supply base selection.
- Supplier Performance Management through Score cards and other related parameters.
- Encourage and coordinate early supplier involvement on new product designs using the suppliers’ expertise to optimize quality, cost and manufacturability.
- Co-ordination with Engineering for identifying and Onboarding new suppliers for NPI, Design change management , Qualification of Alternates.
- Manage the commodity spend by Negotiation/Mitigation of Price increases. Plan & Execute cost reduction strategies through Negotiations, Material cost reductions, Alternate sourcing , technology changes.
- Support material availability escalations & co-ordinate with suppliers to ensure no line down.
- Supporting quality escalations to ensure standards/processes to ensure part/supplier compliance
- Managing Contracts for ongoing and new business with suppliers.
- Data Analysis & representation for Sourcing & Pricing evaluation & decision making.
- Responsible for Business Continuity plans and Risk management programs.
Who we’re looking for
1. RF-Specific Technical Expectation
- Understanding of RF distribution networks, match networks, filter assemblies, magnetics, transmission line assemblies, RF cables, silver-plated components, PCBAs, and box-build manufacturing.
- Familiarity with RF manufacturing challenges including impedance control, power handling, shielding, plating requirements, test fixture replication, and production transfer between manufacturing sites.
- Experience evaluating RF supplier technical capabilities including assembly, testing, calibration, and manufacturing process control.
2. India Supplier Development and Localization
The current language focuses on supplier management but not ecosystem development - For India, a significant portion of the job will be creating capability where it does not yet exist.
- Develop and execute supplier localization strategies within India for RF components and assemblies.
- Build and mature supplier ecosystems including magnetics, sheet metal, cable assemblies, plated components, and contract manufacturing partners.
- Lead supplier development activities including capability assessments, technical gap closure plans, qualification readiness reviews, and manufacturing maturity improvements.
3. New Product Introduction (NPI) and Supplier Qualification
With increasing focus on Shift Left and Velocity Strategies, the BtP RF SCM can add value in understanding the requirements and improving early engagement with development teams.
- Drive sourcing engagement during concept, development, NPI, and production transition phases.
- Partner with engineering teams to execute supplier qualifications, first article inspections, alternate source qualifications, and production transfers.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities supporting Design Change Notices (DCNs), Product Change Notifications (PCNs), obsolescence management, and supplier process changes.
4. Global Collaboration and Communication
- Interface regularly with North America-based Strategic Commodity Managers, Product Groups, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality organizations.
- Lead global cross-functional reviews across multiple time zones and communicate supplier strategy, risks, mitigation plans, and sourcing recommendations to executive stakeholders.
- Provide executive-level reporting and presentations supporting commodity reviews, supplier business reviews, and Annual Operating Plan objectives.
Additional Desired Skills
• Experience working with suppliers in India and broader APAC regions.
• Knowledge of semiconductor capital equipment supply chains.
• Understanding of RF manufacturing technologies and test methodologies.
• Experience leading supplier transfers, localization initiatives, and cost-reduction programs.
Preferred qualifications
Bachelor’s in Mechanical / Electrical / Production/ Industrial Engineering or any other stream. MBA will be an added advantage.
Min 12~15 yrs in commodity management in Engineering / Manufacturing Industry
Commodity Management and familiarity with semiconductor, Electrical equipment Manufacturing or high-technology supply management practices, standards and organizations.
Business and technical background understanding of RF Components / Assemblies / Box Builds.
