Software Development Engineer, Amazon Security

Amazon Security is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to join our mission-critical security infrastructure team. We enumerate Amazon's entire network attack surface—from retail systems to AWS infrastructure—through sophisticated passive data collection and active scanning, providing comprehensive visibility that enables security teams across Amazon and AWS to identify and remediate vulnerabilities before they become threats.

In this role, you'll design and build scalable systems that catalog network assets, making this critical security data accessible through datalake, programmatic APIs, and real-time change events. You'll tackle complex problems in distributed systems, work with ambiguous requirements, and make thoughtful tradeoffs between feature development and operational excellence. Key job responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable software systems for network discovery and attack surface enumeration, contributing to the full software development lifecycle including scoping, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing meaningful technical feedback to peers and ensuring high code quality standards across the team
• Collaborate with security teams and stakeholders across Amazon and AWS to understand requirements and deliver solutions that provide actionable visibility into network endpoints and potential vulnerabilities
• Drive operational excellence by monitoring system performance, responding to operational issues, identifying root causes, and implementing permanent fixes that improve reliability and maintainability
• Balance priority tradeoffs between new feature development and operational work, making informed decisions in ambiguous situations while ensuring solutions align with long-term architectural strategy

Basic qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Preferred qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
