The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Manager, Translational Informatics Platform Architecture to work at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, Florida.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Translational Informatics Platform Architecture (H) leads and oversees all software engineering functions at the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), an NCI-designated cancer center. This role is responsible for managing software engineering teams across the full lifecycle of the cancer center's clinical data platform - spanning cloud infrastructure architecture, DevSecOps pipeline engineering, backend software systems, and security-compliance programs for systems handling protected health information (PHI) in support of cancer research and patient care.

The Manager, Translational Informatics Platform Architecture (H) provides both strategic technical direction and day-to-day engineering leadership, ensuring all software systems satisfy HIPAA/HITECH regulatory requirements while advancing the center's clinical research and data platform capabilities. The role requires deep, integrated expertise across cloud infrastructure, software architecture, regulated healthcare compliance, and security engineering - all applied simultaneously within a single, complex clinical data environment.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Leads, manages, and develops a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, DevSecOps engineers, cloud infrastructure engineers, and platform engineers supporting software development initiatives at SCCC.
• Establishes hiring standards, conducts performance evaluations, develops career pathways, and provides technical mentorship to engineering staff.
• Collaborates with clinical leadership, research directors, principal investigators, compliance stakeholders, and institutional IT partners to translate clinical research requirements into technical roadmaps and engineering solutions.
• Oversees the design, provisioning, implementation, and lifecycle management of Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics, Azure Container Registry, Azure Immutable Blob Storage, and associated managed identity configurations.
• Establishes and maintains Infrastructure-as-Code standards, environment promotion workflows, cloud platform governance, and automated drift detection processes supporting enterprise engineering operations.
• Oversees production AKS environments, networking architecture, GitOps strategies, security controls, workload orchestration, and cloud-based services to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure operation of technology platforms.
• Leads the development, governance, and continuous improvement of DevSecOps strategies, CI/CD pipelines, software deployment processes, release automation, software supply chain security, and integrated security controls.
  Establishes and enforces software engineering standards related to code quality, testing, automation, configuration management, software delivery practices, and engineering governance.
• Directs implementation of technical safeguards and security controls supporting systems containing protected health information (PHI), ensuring compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Conducts and oversees security risk assessments, audit readiness activities, access controls, attribute-based RBAC frameworks, audit logging architectures, credential management practices, and security monitoring processes.
• Provides strategic leadership for software architecture, platform engineering, cloud architecture, infrastructure design, observability standards, and technology selection activities supporting clinical and research operations.
• Oversees the development, integration, deployment, and maintenance of software applications, APIs, microservices, healthcare system integrations, data pipelines, and enterprise data platforms.
• Develops and promotes interoperability, data integration, multi-tenancy architecture, platform governance, and information-sharing strategies supporting the secure exchange and use of clinical and research data.
• Evaluates emerging technologies, engineering methodologies, cloud services, security solutions, and platform capabilities to identify opportunities for innovation, operational improvement, DevSecOps maturity, and long-term platform sustainability.
• Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Master’s degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience required
