About Duke HomeCare & Hospice

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke HomeCare & Hospice, which offers hospice, home health, and infusion services across the region, as well as serves as the home forthe Duke Caregiver Support Program. Team members work closely with a patient's physician to provide comprehensive, individualized care in the comfort of their home or at our inpatient hospice facility in Durham, NC.

The dedicated nursing team at Hock Family Pavilion, Duke Health’s 12-bed inpatient hospice facility, where compassionate, expert care is provided to patients with advanced illness and their families. Registered Nurses play a vital role in delivering comfort-focused care, managing complex symptoms, and supporting patients and loved ones through every stage of the hospice journey. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, nurses embody Duke Health's commitment to Putting People First by providing care with compassion, dignity, excellence, and respect. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference while supporting patients and families during a time when exceptional care and human connection matter most.

Shifts: Day Shift either three 10-hour or three 12-hour shifts (11 AM to 9:30 PM or 11 AM to 11:30 PM), Weekend Option, Saturday, Sunday, Monday

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.

Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.

Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.

Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources.

Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.

Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.

Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited Associate's Degree in Nursing, Nursing Diploma program or Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.

All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the BSN program within seven years of their start date.

Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or compact license from participating state.
BLS required, but may be renewed during orientation.
