Job description

Joining Amex Tech means discovering and shaping your contribution to something big. Here, you can work alongside talented tech teams and build a unique career with the Powerful Backing of American Express. With a range of opportunities to work with the latest technologies, and a commitment to back the broader engineering community through open source, our mission is to power your success. Because Amex Tech is powered by our technology, our culture, and our colleagues.

The Technology organization enables and accelerates the company’s growth strategies, delivering global capabilities and services in support of Amex’s customers and colleagues, while maintaining 24/7 servicing and availability to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality customer experience. Technology provides the foundation for everything we do in the company while driving differentiation through building and leveraging innovative technology and data insights.

The Enterprise AI Platform organization builds foundational capabilities that enable teams across American Express to develop and scale AI/ML and Generative AI products and experiences securely and responsibly.

Our team brings together talent and experience from Big Tech, AI research and academia, startups, and American Express, combining deep expertise and diverse perspectives with an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for building. Together, we are focused on enabling American Express to operate as an AI-powered enterprise and deliver measurable business impact.

We are seeking a Manager of Product Management to own one or more strategic product areas within the Enterprise AI Platform. Reporting to the Director of Product Management, this leader will identify high-value customer and developer problems, define product strategy and roadmaps, and partner closely with Engineering and Forward-Deployed Engineering (FDE) to translate customer learnings into scalable platform capabilities. This leader will own the end-to-end product lifecycle, from discovery and product definition through launch, adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement.

This role requires exceptional analytical and product judgment, technical fluency, and customer orientation, with the ability to turn complex and ambiguous problems into scalable products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer and developer needs through direct discovery, quantitative and qualitative analysis, product data, FDE learnings, and market insights.

  • Structure customer problems, form and test hypotheses, and quantify and validate high-value product opportunities.

  • Define product outcomes and roadmaps, translating recurring customer and FDE needs into reusable capabilities and aligning cross-functional partners around priorities and trade-offs.

  • Own and prioritize products from concept through launch and adoption, partnering closely with Engineering to drive product decisions and alignment while balancing customer value, developer experience, technical feasibility, scalability, speed, risk, and cost.

  • Partner with FDE and internal customers to drive adoption, validate value, and identify opportunities for broader reuse.

  • Define success metrics and value-realization measures, using product data, experimentation, and customer evidence to evaluate outcomes and continuously improve product decisions and roadmaps.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of product management experience building enterprise software, platforms, developer products, or AI/ML and Generative AI products, including demonstrated experience taking technical products from concept through launch, adoption, and iteration.
  • Strong analytical and product judgment, with demonstrated ability to structure customer problems, test hypotheses, and translate quantitative and qualitative evidence into product decisions and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML and Generative AI products, technologies, and application architectures, with the technical fluency to partner effectively with Engineering and Data Science.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer needs into scalable products and capabilities in partnership with technical and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder influence skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building AI/ML or Generative AI products, developer platforms, ML infrastructure, or other highly technical products.
  • Experience working with customer-facing engineering or FDE teams to translate implementation learnings into scalable products.
  • Experience with enterprise technology governance, security, privacy, or responsible AI.

How Openbound evaluates sponsorship

Visa history uses official U.S. Department of Labor H-1B LCA disclosure data and USCIS H-1B petition history. Green card history uses DOL PERM disclosure data. Each is read for the employer as a whole, for roles like this one, and for this location, weighted toward the most recent fiscal years.

An employer is matched to its filing entities by verified legal name and reviewed aliases; a match is never made on a name resemblance alone. Where no verified entity can be matched, the page says so and draws no conclusion from the absence. 344 filing titles were examined for this employer.

What this posting states outranks history in both directions, and an employer's published policy outranks past filings. Filing history reflects past behavior; it is not a promise of sponsorship for this opening, and none of this is legal advice.
