Software Development Manager, Ring Cloud Connectivity Org

Ring is seeking a Software Development Manager to join the Cloud Connectivity organization in Toronto, where you'll lead a team of engineers building large-scale, customer-facing platforms that power how millions of Ring devices and services work together.

You'll own the technical, and operational strategy for a team delivering complex systems that process high-throughput real-time data and integrate with a broad ecosystem of connected devices. You'll hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent while driving execution on multi-year programs with high leadership visibility. You'll partner across Ring's cloud, firmware, science, and product organizations to deliver results at scale.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead, hire, mentor, and grow a team of 6-8 Software Development Engineers across multiple levels, fostering a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
• Leverage and champion AI-first development practices to maximize team productivity and engineering impact
• Own the team's technical roadmap and execution strategy for multi-year programs, balancing velocity with quality and operational health
• Drive cross-functional alignment with product, design, science, firmware, and partner cloud teams to define requirements, prioritize work, and deliver customer outcomes
• Set the bar for engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code quality, and operational excellence
• Manage delivery across parallel workstreams, ensuring teams are unblocked, appropriately scoped, and delivering iteratively
• Build a strong operational culture — owning service health, incident response, and on-call readiness for production systems at scale
• Partner with senior leadership to communicate progress, surface risks, and influence technical and product direction
• Create an inclusive team environment that attracts and retains diverse engineering talent, with a focus on career development, performance management, and coaching

Ring Cloud Connectivity builds the foundational platforms and services that power how Ring devices connect, communicate, coordinate, and deliver experiences to customers. The team partners across Ring's cloud services, firmware, science, and product organizations to deliver customer experiences at scale. We are a Toronto-based team that values technical ownership, iterative delivery, and leveraging AI-first development to maximize engineering impact.

Basic qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience with Generative AI assisted development practices and driving adoption across a team

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers, or experience managing teams
• Experience with real-time data processing, streaming architectures, or low-latency event-driven systems
• Experience managing mobile and/or backend engineering teams simultaneously
• Experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures at scale
• Track record of delivering multi-year programs with high organizational visibility

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
