The impact you’ll make

The Non-Standard Request (NSR) Engineering team is responsible for enabling customer-driven product requirements that are outside of standard offerings in the Global Products Engineering Group. The team works across Product Management, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Configuration Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Field organizations to deliver customer-specific solutions while maintaining product quality, schedule commitments, and business objectives.

As an NSR Project Engineer 4, you will serve as a program leader responsible for driving complex customer requests from initial scoping through release and implementation. You will lead cross-functional teams, influence engineering priorities, resolve technical and business challenges, and ensure successful delivery of customer commitments.

This role requires a strong combination of technical knowledge, project leadership, stakeholder management, business acumen, and execution excellence. You will also help improve NSR processes, mentor team members, and drive continuous improvement across the organization.

What you’ll do

NSR Program Leadership

• Lead complex NSRs from concept, feasibility assessment, planning, development, qualification, release, and implementation.
• Ensure customer requirements are clearly understood, documented, and aligned across stakeholders.
• Drive cross-functional alignment among engineering, product management, manufacturing, supply chain, field, and account teams.
• Develop and maintain integrated schedules, risk assessments, mitigation plans, and execution strategies.
• Provide regular status updates and escalation management to senior leadership.

Technical Leadership

• Evaluate technical solutions and tradeoffs to ensure customer requirements can be met while maintaining product integrity.
• Partner with technical experts across multiple disciplines to define scope, requirements, deliverables, and success criteria.
• Drive issue resolution for technical, operational, and execution challenges.
• Assess risks associated with design, qualification, manufacturability, supply chain, and field deployment.

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Lead global cross-functional teams consisting of engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and field organizations.
• Facilitate design reviews, decision reviews, readiness reviews, and customer commitment reviews.
• Influence priorities and resource allocation across multiple organizations.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and customer-facing teams.

Business Process Ownership

• Ensure NSR requests are accurately scoped, reviewed, approved, and executed through established workflows.
• Drive process improvements that increase efficiency, predictability, scalability, and visibility.
• Develop metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to support decision making.
• Support strategic initiatives to improve NSR execution across product groups.

Organizational Leadership

• Mentor and coach project engineers and cross-functional team members.
• Share best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a recognized subject matter expert for NSR processes and execution.
• Lead special projects with broad organizational impact.

Who we’re looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of engineering, program management, project engineering, systems engineering, product development, or related experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex cross-functional projects from concept through release.
• Strong understanding of engineering development processes and product lifecycle management.
• Experience leading teams without direct authority.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, influence, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Semiconductor capital equipment industry experience.
• Experience with customer-specific product development, configuration management, or NSR processes.
• Knowledge of product development, qualification, manufacturing, and release processes.
• Experience with SAP, PLM, ERP, project management tools, Power BI, SharePoint, or equivalent systems.
• Experience presenting to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success driving process improvements and organizational change.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $104,000.00 -  $231,000.00.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
