Burns Engineering is seeking a Special Systems Designer to join our Aviation Technology Team in Washington, D.C.

Position Summary:

The Special Systems Designer will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of project designs, project layouts, contract documents, and other technical project activities in accordance with Burns design standards and client requirements.With little autonomy, the Designer will work under the close oversight of mid- and senior level engineering staff

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist in the creation of design drawings for projects using assigned 2-D or 3-D computer software.
• Collaborate with mid- and senior engineering staff to understand project specifications and requirements for assigned tasks.
• Assist in the execution of design processes on assigned projects.
• Under the oversight of mid- and senior level engineering staff, determine design criteria, drawing sequence and presentation, and refining rough sketches and notes to include material quantities and equipment specifications obtained from standard calculations and vendor catalogues.
• Assist the project team in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines.
• May be requested to assist mid- and senior engineering staff in performing on-site inspections during construction and learn how to communicate design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers.
• Perform all tasks in compliance with Burns (and, when applicable, a client’s) standards, policies, procedures, and engineering codes.
• Perform all tasks efficiently, accurately, within the allotted project hours, and complete tasks on or before the due date.
• Observe, understand, apply and retain Burns technical policies, procedures, design analyses, calculations, engineering methodology and codes, and equipment selection criteria.
• Complete special duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

• Experience working on engineering design tasks of moderate complexity.
• Strong knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD and/or Revit
• Minimum 3-5 years low voltage design
• Strong design knowledge of at least one engineering discipline.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong communications and organizational skills.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges

Preferred Experience

• AV design experience preferred but not required
• Wifi design experience preferred but not required
