Senior Manager, Applications

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific and help us make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Applications to lead a team of application scientists and strengthen the connection between customer needs, scientific applications, and product innovation.

The Role

As Senior Manager, Applications, you will lead a highly skilled scientific team responsible for application development, workflow validation, and advanced technical expertise across our product portfolio.

You will work closely with customers and partner across Product Management, R&D, Technical Support, Commercial, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Software teams. Your team will help solve complex customer challenges, validate new applications and workflows, and generate scientific insights that support product adoption and future innovation.

The role may also help shape a future Customer Centre of Excellence, providing customers with opportunities for hands-on evaluation, workflow validation, and training.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing team of application scientists.
• Set priorities for application development and validation based on customer and business needs.
• Provide senior scientific leadership for complex customer applications and technical escalations, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical verification.
• Develop and validate new applications across different sample types, research areas, and customer workflows.
• Lead validation of automation, sequencing, and integrated workflow solutions.
• Generate scientific evidence, protocols, and application data to support product positioning and customer adoption.
• Partner with customers and Support on experimental design, validated protocols, and complex workflow challenges.
• Identify emerging customer applications and opportunities for new products, applications, and workflow improvements.
• Partner with R&D and Product Management to translate application and customer insights into product improvements and future requirements.
• Collaborate across Support, Commercial, Marketing, Quality, Operations, and Software teams to strengthen customer success and commercial enablement.
• Establish scalable approaches for application validation, documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
• Use application and customer insights, technical trends, and performance metrics to identify recurring issues and drive improvements.

What We’re Looking For

• PhD or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Proteomics, Genomics, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or a related Life Sciences discipline.
• 8+ years of relevant Life Sciences experience, including significant laboratory and customer-facing experience.
• Experience in applications, field applications, technical support, R&D, product management, or a related scientific function.
• 2+ years of experience leading and developing scientific or technical teams.
• Strong understanding of proteomics technologies, with experience in automation and/or sequencing workflows.
• Experience working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, or other Life Sciences customers.
• Strong scientific problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to influence and work effectively in a global, matrixed organization.
• Customer-focused, data-driven approach with a passion for scientific innovation and continuous improvement.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $143,000.00–$200,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
