Position Summary

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer In Test, to apply advanced software engineering skills to improve quality across the development lifecycle through scalable test frameworks, developer tooling, and reusable automation solutions. This is a senior individual contributor role for a developer who specializes in testing, testability, and quality engineering.

This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership across teams. The individual will influence architecture, strengthen automation strategy, improve developer feedback loops, and help establish consistent quality engineering practices that scale across products and platforms. The role carries strong Software Development Engineer in Test expectations, with an emphasis on building engineering solutions that improve product quality, platform reliability, and development velocity.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and evolve scalable test frameworks, automation libraries, and developer-facing quality tools
• Understand how the broader software ecosystem works together and define quality engineering approaches that align to platform strategy
• Partner with Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams to define test strategy, coverage goals, and acceptance criteria
• Build reusable utilities, harnesses, mocks, stubs, and data solutions that improve system testability and validation efficiency
• Develop specialized test strategies and harnesses for conversational AI systems across Voice and Chat channels
• Support quality across APIs, backend services, and full-stack workflows, including distributed and multi-service environments
• Validate complex multi-turn conversations, intent recognition, orchestration logic, and agent interactions
• Integrate automated quality checks into CI/CD pipelines to support fast, reliable feedback loops across teams
• Establish and promote best practices for framework selection, test data strategy, automation design, and engineering-led quality
• Create clear patterns, examples, and documentation that make testing more accessible and reduce friction for engineers
• Identify quality gaps, recommend scalable solutions, and drive improvements that strengthen release confidence and customer experience
• Influence architecture and engineering design decisions with a focus on quality risks, test strategy, and long-term maintainability
• Investigate complex defects, analyze failure trends, and support root-cause resolution across development and test environments
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers to strengthen developer-led testing practices and overall quality engineering maturity
• Pair with developers on complex quality and testability challenges and contribute directly to implementation when needed

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software development, test engineering, or quality engineering roles, including significant experience in SDET or developer-led test infrastructure work
• Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as TypeScript or Java.
• Deep experience building test frameworks, automation infrastructure, harnesses, or developer tooling in modern engineering environments
• Strong understanding of software design, object-oriented design, distributed systems, debugging, APIs, and maintainable code practices
• Experience supporting quality across backend services, APIs, and full-stack systems
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD workflows and improving engineering feedback loops
• Experience designing and maintaining test data strategies and reusable testing patterns
• Experience defining technical standards or reusable solutions that support multiple teams
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction as a senior individual contributor
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to document patterns, mentor engineers, and articulate quality strategy clearly

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with conversational AI platforms, AI agents, or multi-turn workflow validation
• Experience testing Voice and Chat experiences with channel-specific test methodologies
• Experience with API testing, mocking, and contract testing
• Experience with developer tooling, service virtualization, or environment-aware testing approaches
• Experience improving automation maturity or quality engineering standards across an organization
• Experience with performance, resiliency, or reliability testing
• Experience evaluating AI or LLM-based responses using emerging validation approaches
• Experience working in highly regulated or large-scale enterprise environments

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (Highschool diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience)
  

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$130,295.00 - $284,280.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
