Job description

Eaton’s ES GEIS CHD division is currently seeking a Maintenance Plumber - 3rd Shift. This position is based at our Syracuse, NY location. The candidate will be responsible for replacing and piping in an industrial environment.

The core hours for this role are 10:30 pm to 6:30 am.  The hourly rate for this position is $39.53 per hour.

What you’ll do:

  • Plan and perform all required operations to install, maintain and repair water, steam, oil, air, gas, acid, sanitary waste, waste water, sprinkler, pressure and piping systems; pumps, motor sets, heating and air conditioning equipment and related apparatus in plant, office and yard areas.
  • Use a normal range of hand tools and pipe fitting machinery to bend, thread and cut pipe. Use pipe economically.
  • Select and assemble proper elbows, unions, couplings and other fittings.
  • Use torch to sweat copper joints and solder as required.
  • Make up brackets, braces, hangers, etc. and perform necessary operations to secure and assure permanence of installed equipment.
  • Make soil pipe connections, vent traps properly and perform all work in conformance to plumbing codes.
  • Install high pressure steam lines, regulators, valves, etc.
  • Install proper number of sprinkler heads according to pipe size; maintain and adjust dry and divisional valves, obtaining proper pressures to obtain effective operation of sprinkler systems.
  • Install and maintain underground fire supply, sanitary and storm sewer lines.
  • Replace motorized and regulative control equipment for steam and hot water; making minor repairs.
  • Disassemble and repair copper coil unit heaters.
  • Install and maintain new and rebuilt air conditioning units including repair of reciprocating, absorption and centrifugal units.
  • Replace such items as compressor, condenser, motor. pump, expansion and discharge valves, piping systems, etc.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, isolate problems and repair instruments and control systems for heating, cooling, air, water and waste water systems.
  • Troubleshoot air makeup system malfunctions.
  • Regulate combustion equipment and maintain operational logs as required.
  • Make all required connections to fill main propane, oil, acid, and like material storage tanks from car load lots; operate valves, control flow, etc.
  • Must be familiar with plumbing and piping codes; able to read schematics, identify common symbols on drawings and follow plumbing piping diagrams.
  • Perform a variety of similar or associated duties as required or directed.
  • Detect and report all defective materials or unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Operate fork truck as required in performance of job duties.
  • Follow prescribed or standard safety regulations. Administer 5 S’s
  • Duties involve application of broad trades or apprenticeship training and experience in improvising or making decisions where only general methods are available requiring considerable initiative and ingenuity.
  • Complete training as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • 3 years of plumbing/pipefitting experience in an industrial environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Journeyman certification
  • Additional educational or vocational training is a plus but not required.

  • Prolonged standing for the shift
  • Repetitive motions like frequent bending, twisting, and lifting to load/unload parts from machine and tubs.
